Marketing research
I went to talk with mister Ian about the lapdesk and the functions that it has, but he said he is not interested in buying that product, because for his point of view is uncomfortable and he prefers to use normal desks.

Starbucks Hot Coffee Vending Machines, Karla Sanchez, 28 september 2009
Im going to make my business plan about one of the ideas I selected from the 400 hundred small business achine in a business ideas book, because I want to see how will it work (the advantages and the disadvantages).
This vending machine is directed specially to working people and persons in places with cold weathers. I think in the future, if this works, new machines could be create with others starbucks products, like late, frappuchino, smoothies, milkshakes, to make the market segment bigger (with childrens, teenagers) and get more money.
I think that if I have to start with only hot drinks machine, I'll look for good points to put them, like business centres, because a lot of workers and business people use to have a hot coffe in the mornings, while working or before start and with all the presure of their work they prefer to have a coffe from a vending machine, were they don't have to make a line to order and pay and don't even have to go to a starbucks store before work.
Other thing to consider is that it will be better to place this machines in cold places, were drinking hot drinks is more usual and necesary.
SWOT Analysis:
One of the better things that this machines have is that the customer gests satisfied faster, without having to change route before work (or even leave work sometimes).
A big weakness is that the competitor of this vending machine will be in one part, the same brand (starbucks), because some persons will think that is better to have the coffe in the traditional way (going to the store)
A good thing is that in this machines the coffe can be cheaper, because in diference from the stores, here we don't need employees and without employees the price can descend, at least in the beginning and after a while, when people gets used to have coffe from the machine, the price can go up a little bit to have more profit.
This product can have publicity from the stores, when they say that they recomend to use them and that they have the exactly same coffe, giving fliers, tv advertising, etc. All this money has to return when the customers start using the vending machine.

Impact on a business of joining the Euro
Joining or not the Euro is a difficult desicion, because it brings a lot of changes (andvantages & disadvantages) for the UK.
One good thing that joining it can make is the elimination of currency conversion costs, making trades and importations with other countries of the european union cheaper (and the prices of imported products will be cheaper as well). With the euro comes an unification for european countries in economy and it will be convenient for the UK, because an economic union makes countries get closer in a political way too and with this an european war will be less likely.
By the other side, one of the worst problems that changing currency can give, is the transition costs. The UK would have to spend a lot of money in changing the currency from pounds to euro, and they'll have to change cashiers, vending machines, underground ticket machines, etc. (expending with this changes in machines a big amount of money too).
All the necessary modifications to join the euro can't be done in one day. It would be a really problematic, expensive and long process. People won't be happy with all the difficulties of the process.
Other bad thing is the lost of identy, because even the coins can tell you some things from the country where they are from, for example the persons impressed in the billets of the UK make tourists and visitors know them or at least recognize them if they see a picture and know that they are or were important for the UK.
In conclusion joining the Euro will have a hudge impact in all the internal and external aspects of business. I can't say if it will be good or bad for the UK, because it brings as much advantages as disadvantages and people disagree in this aspect in forums and internet pages I visited, and I didn't get convinced reading their arguments. I'm neutral:)

400 small business ideas!
Starbucks Hot Coffee Vending Machines
CONCEPT: In their attempt to colonize the entire
coffee-consuming world, Starbucks have now introduced
their own branded hot coffee vending machines as a way
to reach places where their ever-growing branch of stores
cannot.
COMPANY/INVENTOR: Starbucks
FURTHER INFO: www.adcult.com/ads/starbucksintroduces-
hot-drink-machines/
I like this idea because a lot of people loves starbucks and with this it will be easier to get a coffe in any momment, without having to look for a store.
Umbrella Vending Machines
CONCEPT: In rainy cities, vending machines selling
cheap umbrellas are strategically placed to maximise the
need for protection from the rain.
STRENGTHS: If located in busy subway stations,
shopping or business areas, sales should be outstanding;
owner does not need to be present to operate business;
unique form of vending machine; no competition; more
profit per unit sold than normal vending machine
products.
WEAKNESSES: Dependent on rainy weather; the need
to secure strategic locations for maximum sales;
specialised nature of machines in terms of servicing.
REAL WORLD BIZ: www.umbrollys.com;
www.umbrellabox.sg
This is a good idea in places like Oxford, because the weather is unpredictable and it can be sunny and in a second start raining.
Mobile Car Repairs & Services
CONCEPT: Like other new or newish small businesses
mentioned in this book, bringing a service to customers
at their home or work can create a winning business
model. The concept of bringing automotive services to
customers isn’t new but it has proven to be a blue-chip,
perennial small business type that can clearly be very
lucrative if administered properly.
STRENGTHS: Various estimates suggest that there are
up to 200 million cars in the US and over 32 million in
the UK and they all need servicing.
WEAKNESSES: Mechanical expertise or the ability to
manage and administer mechanics; considerable set-up
costs.
REAL WORLD BIZ: www.mobileautoservice.ie;
www.mobileproautorepair.com; www.mobile-autoservices.
co.uk; www.emergencymobileautorepair.com
I selected this one because it will be really helpfull in case of a problem with the tires or the brakets of the car, you can just wait for the mechanic to come in place of calling a truck to move your car. It will be cheaper for the coustumer and they will prefer to do this.
High School* Student Tutor in Students’ Homes
(*Tutoring for Entrance Exams into exclusive {private}
high schools is also a booming sub-category).
CONCEPT: This small business involves academically
competent tutors travelling to students’ homes to coach
them in high school subjects - depending on their
individual strengths.
STRENGTHS: Home-based thus low overheads;
virtually all income is in cash - taxation declaration is up
to the individual entrepreneur; good hourly rates;
working relationships with students can be very
rewarding; word-of-mouth can build an excellent
business - often with siblings in same house or nearby
relatives/friends; good tutors can be booked ahead for
years; senior-friendly small business for retired teachers.
WEAKNESSES: Some college qualification is obviously
beneficial in convincing parents of suitability though even
attendance at a teaching course may suffice; need for a
reliable car; work is seasonal depending on school term
dates; difficult to find other competent tutors to earn
royalties from - the good ones have their own successful
tuition businesses. See the center entry too on Page 216.
REAL WORLD BIZ: www.CraigsList.org (many
examples there); for resource materials, try
www.sparknotes.com; www.enotes.com
A lot of students need help to do homeworks or to prepare themselves to do exams and this is the perfect option to them.

Lapdesk business and leisure folder
If I had to invest £25,000 in this business, I would modify it in two ways:
a) Selling it with an insurance, because some business man have really important and sometimes expensive things in their folders (laptops, mobilephones, etc) and with this insurance they'll receive money to replace their things in case of lost.
b) I'll sell a platform with it, like the ones you can see in this link: http://www.instand.com/ because it will be even more confortable for business man to do their things in the office, meeting or wherever they are.
My marketing area to this product will be the sector of business men, because they are the ones who need a thing like this. I want to include an insurance and the platform in the price. My competitors will be the other persons who are selling the same product as me, or the ones with a different idea but for the same thing, but mine is going to be different (because I want to include the platform and the insurance). Im going to have advertisements on T.V., flyers, promotion in newspapers, etc.

Marketing Plan - Rotating Spaghetti Fork
We wish to sell a product of which will revolutionise pasta eating as we know it, we present to you the rotating spaghetti fork. No more pasta stains, no more embarrasing moments at the italian resturant, no more, no more!!!
Our marekting plan consists of the following:
- P.E.S.T. analysis
- S.W.O.T. analysis
- Advertisment (TV, magazines, Posters, radio, etc.)
- Internet marketing projects (homepage, online shop, etc.)
- Distrubution to householding shops across the UK
We plan to begin with a budget of 9,000 pounds, to produce, distribute and make publicity.
-5,000 for materials and production process
-2,000 for distribution
-2,000 for publicity
PEST analysis
Our PEST analysis shows that the rotating fork would be help for the ageing parts of the society, of which it would easier for them to eat pasta when they don’t have to rotate the fork by hand, it also shows us that it would be a great help for the younger parts of society as the rotating fork would reduce their chance of getting pasta stains on their clothes, thus reducing the amount of laundry and saving the family a little money.
But, a negative side of this is the costs of replacing the batteries to the fork since it’s battery powered.
SWOT analysis
Strengths: This is a unique product and it will receive a lot of attencion, especially from the
younger people (kids) because we think they will find it funny and interesting.
Weaknesses: Some persons will find this a useless product, saying they can rotate the fork by theirselves.
Opportunities: Showing the product to kids, making it good looking for them (colorfull)
Threats: there are some conditions which could damage the objective, maybe some persons will refuse to use the rotating fork.
Summary: Our idea is to sell a rotating spaghetti fork, specially for the younger people. We hope to begin selling it in UK and if we have succes continue with the rest of Europe. We have analiced all the positive and negative aspects and we are sure of that this is a really different product that will call attention of a lot of persons.
